OUTLOOK - C fore Survey
Methodology
Research organization C – fore conducted the survey to rank top academic institutes in different professional areas viz Engineering, Medicine, Hotel management, Healthcare management, Fashion technology, Mass communication and media. The methodology, parameters and sub parameters used to evaluate institutes was finalised by a committee consisting of representatives from Outlook, C- fore and different industry segments. A pilot survey was also conducted among academicians and recruiters for the purpose.
For Engineering and Medical colleges both objective and perceptual data was used. The perceptual data was collected using a structured questionnaire which were administered to senior faculty members and professionals from industry. The respondents were asked to rate the institutes they were familiar with on ten point scale against different parameters. The average aggregate score was multiplie by the weightage assigned. The total score thus arrive was used for the ranking purpose. The objective data was collected using a semi structured questionnaire and also from secondary sources available. The parameters used and the corresponding marks assigned are given in the table below.
To calculate the overall score a 60: 40 weightage was assigned to objective and perceptual scores.
For ranking colleges institutes in Hotel management, Healthcare management, Fashion Technology, Mass communication and media, faulty members and professionals in the respective industry were contacted. They were administered a structured questionnaire and asked to rate the institutes they were familiar with on ten point scale against four broad parameters i.e Competence of faculty , Pedagogic systems and processes , infrastructure and placements. In order to eliminate bias, the rating that the respondents gave to the institutes that they were working in or had graduated from was not considered. The average rating that each institute got against different parameters was calculated .The average rating score was multiplied by the corresponding weightage. The sum total of the weighted averages was used to arrive at a score for an institute and was ranked accordingly.
